America's most powerful bomber, B-1 B 'Lancer'

When it was getting developed, at first there were only obstacles. After the Vietnam War ended, the money given to the ministry of defense was slowly decreasing and when the Carter administration failed in the project of making XB-70 ‘Valkyrie’, the President ordered the development of the airplane to stop. But, when the new presient came into office, he ordered the development of the plane to start again. That president was Ronald Reagan, a fervent anti communist. The test airplane was actually B-1A but the real airplane that came out was different from B-1A. By sacrificing its agility and speed, the new bomber had better stealth by 20dB. It also decreased the error in high altitude bombing and to increase its accuracy of bombing, it was developed to be able to fly at low altitude and its able to do carpet bombing. As for its electronic devices, it is equipped with OAS and DAS. The B-1B is also able to fly at 60m because of its radars. As for its carrying capacity, it is able to carry 34,019kg of bombs in itself and is able to carry 26,762kg of bombs on the outside and in all, is able to carry 60.8 tons of bombs. This means that even if two or three of these bombers fly, it can destroy a minor city considering the power of the bombs these days. In addition, this can carry nuclear bombs such as AGM-69A. AGM-86A ALCM, B61 or B83 nuclear bombs.
This bomber was placed in the US airforce starting from the 1985 and in 1988, had 100 of these. In 1990, this bomber got the nickname ‘lancer’ because lancer is the unit that leads the cavalry and penetrates the infantry lines. As the Soviet Union was disintegrated in 1991, the B-1B wasn’t even able to go to combat. It also wasn’t able to see combat in the Gulf War. Although it finally saw combat in 1998 at Operation Desert Fox, its potentials aren’t tested out enough. But it finally did its real value in the Afghanistan when America attacked the Taliban. Ironically, US wasn’t able to deploy units there for the fear of casualties because the US had given the Taliban tons of AK-47s and RPG-7 when Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan. The B-1B was picked for destroying the T-55 and T-62 tanks and the Taliban’s main bases. It is also even now used in the Iraq war for carpet bombing and making the enemies surrender.
